Again, I love immersing myself with items that another person decides is junk. I believe just about anything can have a use or get a complete face lift. Take the frame above for example. Maybe you like this retro gold frame but others might think of it as ugly. Well, this garage sale find was destined to be renewed!
Maybe, you have an old frame in your home or you may need to go thrift shopping to find that poor unloved frame.
I will show you how I made this once tired mirror into a fresh look.
What you will need:
– Old Frame
– Clean Rag
– Masking Tape
– Choose two different colors! American Paint Company (CLAY/CHALK PAINT)
– MOD PODGE Glue for either fabric or matte finish (Plaid Mod Podge CS11302 Original 16-Ounce Glue, Matte Finish)
– All Purpose Glue Aleene’s 15601 Original Tacky Glue, 16-Ounce
– 2 meters of Lace and 5 meters of string of beads/pearls
– Sand paper (120 fine)
Okay, let’s get started!
To protect the mirror or glass, take some masking tape run it along the edges you wish to protect from the paint. I decided to keep some of the gold trim along the mirror.
Okay, your all set to paint! If you want that rustic look with your projects, I suggest American Paint Company. CLAY/CHALK PAINT It paints beautifully and love their color collections; pastels to bright.
First select your layer. I chose the lightest color first (Lace Doily) then the (Sky Blue). I let the first coat dry over night. I finished with the light blue for my second coat. Once you allow your second coat to dry over night, you can begin the sanding process. You can just choose one layer and have a solid color too but the CLAY/CHALK PAINT main purpose is to give that rustic look. I used 120 grit sanding paper and lightly began standing the frame. I believe if I used a darker second layer you would be able to notice more of the layer underneath but I wanted a faint notice of “rusticity.”
Because my goal was to give the mirror a Victorian look I decided to add lace and string of pearls. I used matte Mod Podge Plaid Mod Podge CS11302 Original 16-Ounce Glue, Matte Finish to keep egg shell look with the frame and used all purpose glue Aleene’s 15601 Original Tacky Glue, 16-Ounce for the string of pearls.
I allow that to dry over night and my new mirror has completed its transition.
